Yet another Gordon Ramsay restaurant – he has one wherever you turn!
This one is in a very elegant part of London and is located in an impressive building which doesn’t look as if it houses a restaurant, yet alone two! They are Maze and the Maze Grill and are frequented by a mainly young, upmarket clientele who obviously enjoy their food. I haven’t eaten in the Grill which specialises in steaks and classic grill dishes. Maze on the other hand offers a selection of more unusual dishes which is more to my taste. On my most recent visit we had the 4 course tasting lunchtime menu which we all thoroughly enjoyed – you have the choice of any four dishes – all starters, all desserts or whatever combination you prefer, so that gives you considerable latitude. The chef has a penchant for Asian dishes and I started with a sushi salmon dish with citrus juice and finely sliced vegetables. followed by a foie gras and chicken liver pate, poached monkfish and finished with a shin of beef roulade. There were a variety of enticing desserts including a rich chocolate mousse and an exotic fruit crumble.
This tasting menu cost £29 but there was also an extensive choice of dishes on the la carte menu. We drank champagne as we were celebrating a 21st birthday, but also had some very refreshing non-alcoholic fruit cocktails.
I have been to Maze before and will certainly be going back -pleasant surroundings and excellent food.
