The Musee Jacquemart Andre is a beautiful” hotel particulier” not far from the Champs-Elysees, which was built by a banker for his wife in the 19th century and was then gifted to the State to be used as a museum. It is a grandiose building with an impressive atrium and a curving marble staircase and is furnished with priceless furniture and Old Master paintings from the French, Italian and Dutch schools. I visited recently to see a Fra Angelico exhibition and then had tea in the restaurant.
The dining room is an impressive room with large tiered standing lamps and a beautiful tapestry on the back wall. At lunchtime you have the choice of a selection of salads and in the afternoon you can choose from tea and cakes, ice creams and a variety of freshly squeezed juices. All the cakes are home- made, there is a selection of teas and service is quick and efficient. Tea and cake is Euros 9, the juices are Euros 4,20 and the icecreams , with an unusual selection of flavours, are Euros 5,80.
From the exterior on Boulevard Haussmann you would never suspect the existence of this little palace, but now you know!
