La Poissonerie de la Cote Catalane, 66660 Port Vendres

Not only is this a wonderful fish shop, stocked with oysters, shrimp, crab, squid and lobsters, but there is also an Oyster Bar and a fish restaurant.

The fish could not be fresher as the shop is located on the docks at Port Vendres, one of the largest fishing ports in the South of France, and goes direct from the boats to the  fish counter.

I have not eaten in the restaurant yet, but love the Oyster Bar with platefuls of the oysters of your choice, shrimp, sea snails and mussels, accompanied by garlic mayonnaise, and all very reasonably priced.  A dozen large oysters, six shrimp, 6 sea snails, crusty wholemeal bread and a half a bottle of white wine came to under 20 euros on my last visit.

But apart from the fish and oysters you can also take home bottles of fish soup,  assorted fish salads, portions of Catalan tapas, and  continue the experience in your own dining room.
