Imagine an earthenware pot filled with scallops, shrimps, mussels, squid and assorted pieces of fish such as monkfish, sea bass and salmon, in a steaming, saffron-scented succelent broth… That’s the signature dish of La Table du Pecheur in the little village of Bages which lies between Perpignan and Narbonne and is perched on a hill overlooking the lagoon of the same name.

The menu is exclusively fish and consists of only a few dishes which are sourced mainly from the lagoon. The wines are all from the Aude region which boasts so many individual vineyards that’s it’s hard to keep count!

But there are two other noteworthy features in this restaurant. The first is the absolutely superb service worthy of a three star restaurant and all done by one waiter. And the second is the desserts – fabulous concoctions with edible flowers, puff pastry, chocolate, macaroons, sorbets, chantilly cream etc etc.
To die for!!

The view over the lagoon from the restaurant, which also has an outside terrace, is lovely, especially at sunset, and the friendly welcome of the chef and his wife combine to make a visit to La Table du Pecheur a real pleasure.
