There are many famous fish restaurants in Paris – but for my money this one is amongst the best.

It is located in a former haberdashery shop and has even kept the name:  Mercerie Mullot – but all resemblance ends there!  There is nothing other than products of the sea on the menu, but all of the absolute highest quality – every variety of fresh fish, as well as all sorts of seafood – oysters, clams, langoustines, lobsters, sea urchins, mussels,

On my last visit we started with 12 Fines de Claires oysters – there was a choice of more than six different types of oysters-  or you could have splurged on a mixed seafood platter of your own devising.    Our main course was sea scallops in their shells cooked in butter, parsley and garlic.   But the menu also offered  Dover sole, turbot, monkfish, wild salmon or mackerel,  to name but a few of the varieties of fish available.   Our wine choice was a white 2008 Rully, a wine which is perhaps not one of the most well- known, but which definitely deserves a lot more attention.  The salty butter is another touch I really enjoy, served with crusty baguette  I must confess that I have never got round to trying the desserts because the fish portions are so generous that anything else is superfluous – but I am sure they are as good as the rest of the menu.

There are no fixed menus, and the prices of the dishes correspond to the quality of the fish – so this is not a place for bargains – but it is worth every penny and you won’t regret it!

The room is very small and there are many regulars, so if you don’t want to be disappointed, it is definitely better to reserve.
